Accessibility And The Roof Garden, Chester Beatty Library, Dublin (Workshop )

Posted: Wednesday, 23 May 2018

Places are available to take part in this project aiming to bring together a learning group who will explore museum accessibility through a facilitated process exploring gardens and how we experience them, specifically thinking about the Chester Beatty Library roof garden as a case study. Project commences on 5 June 2018.

Programme Outline

The group will include Chester Beatty Library staff and volunteers, people living with dementia and their families/friends, representatives from relevant departments within Dublin City Council, design professionals and other museum professionals who are interested in access. They group will visit different types of gardens within Dublin South Central. They will reflect on their own experience of gardens, taking into consideration their individual access needs. They will learn about different types of gardens together and investigate how this learning process could inform thinking within Chester Beatty Library regarding the use of the CBL's roof garden.

The outcome of the process will be designed by the group and may include an intervention in the CBL's roof garden; a podcast/audio; exhibition panels illustrating the learning journey that the group have experienced together.

Project Values;
The project will encourage equal participation from all members of the group, who will be supported by the project facilitator to contribute to this co-created learning in a non-hierarchical fashion, recognizing each participants' unique perspective.

The project is process-driven rather than outcome focused.
