2009 (July) - IMA Museum Practitioner’s Forum 2009: Friday 10 July Hear from those who have been involved in a recent museum education or outreach project and want to share their experiences. 2009 (June) - Art Gallery MA: The Shinnors Scolarship is a joint initiative of the Limerick School of Art and Design, LIT and the Limerick City Gallery of Art, part of Limerick City Council. The successful applicant will receive a Scholarship to undertake an MA by Research at Limerick School of Art and Design over a two-year period and be based predominantly at the Limerick City Gallery of Art. 2009 (June) - New Irish Museum Periodical: Boulevard Magenta is a biannual arts and literary publication produced by the Irish Museum of Modern Art. Issue 1 features contributions by Francesco Clemente, Seamus Heaney, Nalini Malani, David Mitchell, Sean Scully, Colm Tóibín and a host of other leading art world figures. 2009 (May) - Conservation Internships: The Chester Beatty Library is hosting two internships in association with the Heritage Council. A one-year internship commencing October/November 2009 is open to recent graduates of book conservation or equivalent at a stipend of €30,000 p.a. with a closing date of 29 May and interviews in the week commencing 22 June. A separate 6-8 week summer placement is also available for students of a recognised conservation training program. We have the potential to gain new audiences, provide free and enjoyable experiences, and encourage our visitors to return and use our venues more frequently over the summer. The week incorporates International Museums Day 18 May and European Museums at Night 15-18 May. See what your neighbourhood museum is doing for Local Authority Museum Day on 21 May by checking their programme for an event near you. 2009 (May) - NI Museums Win Awards: Ballymena and Banbridge The IMA would wish to congratulate The Braid Town Hall Museum and Arts Centre in Ballymena as overall winner in the RICS Northern Ireland (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) awards for excellence in the built environment announced on 20 May. The Braid also won the Building Conservation category and The McWilliam Gallery and Studio in Banbridge won the Community Benefit category. See the press release for details.

2009 (May) - Irish Museum Awards: Winners Announced The IMA would wish to congratulate the winners anounced at an awards ceremony on 18 May. Museum of the year went to Kerry County Museum, best exhibition went to Soldiers and Chiefs at the National Museum of Ireland, best education and outreach project went to South Tipperary County Museum, best collections care went to the Ulster Museum and best local authority museum went to Waterford Museum of Treasures. 2009 (May) - Accreditation Awards: Museum Standards Programme for Ireland presentations were made by the Heritage Council on 18 May to three more museums. Knock Museum, National Print Museum and Waterford Museum of Treasures were each given full accreditation under the scheme. 2009 (May) - Touring Exhibition: Fighting Irishmen is looking for venues. On show at the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh from May-November 2009, the exhibition looks at boxing and Irish emigration. Produced for the Irish Arts Center in New York, it is an eclectic collection of boxing related objects including robes, gloves, boxing bags, prints, photographs, paintings, films and other items. 2009 (May) - Consultation: EU plans for a European heritage label The European heritage label was launched in 2007 by various European countries as an intergovernmental initiative to increase EU citizens' feeling of belonging to a shared European identity and a common cultural space. So far 60 sites in 18 European countries have obtained the label. 2008 (November) - Conference: Conservation Projects in Ireland is a one-day conference during Science Week, hosted by IPCRA - the Irish Professional Conservators and Restorers Association. The event will be held in the Lecture Theatre, National Gallery of Ireland, Merrion Square West, Dublin 2 on Wednesday 12 November 2008, starting at 9.45am. 2008 (April) - Conference: Should We Put History Behind Glass? is being hosted by the Institute of Irish Studies at Queen's University Belfast on 3-4 April 2008. The conference is an initiative of Healing Through Remembering www.healingthroughremembering.org that will explore a Living Memorial Museum in a post-conflict society.
