2014 Annual Conference - Museums and Memory: Challenging Histories

The Annual Conference 2014 took place on 21-23 February in City Hall, Waterford, courtesy of Waterford Museum of Treasures.

The IMA Annual Conference 'Museums and Memory: challenging histories' took the Decade of Commemorations as a starting point to examine how different societies and nations memorialise and remember moments in history that are of importance to the shaping of their national identities.

Invited speakers and conference participants shared their experiences and expertise on a wide range of topics including museums as archives of memory and the role of these in addressing contested and complex histories, the relationship between public history and private or personal memory, and cross-practice approaches to commemoration.
